It probably would have been better for this game to not have tps at all. I assume that the portals are powered by surtling cores and dwarf eyes, but who knows. A nice theory, but if Odin wanted to challenge us he wouldn't let us use portals at all. I suppose an argument could then be made that the ingots should be allowed, but its not that much of a stretch. The other metal items like nails also make sense because, again, you've already got the ore back home and refined it. Considering that, its logical that he would allow weapons and armour through, but not raw material because that would make it to easy for his little lab rat. Valheim is supposed to be a test for the player, created by Odin, which means that any magic used logically comes from Odin, including the teleport portals. Originally posted by Dis Lexic:Actually, there is a fairly logical reason why you cant teleport bars or ore that would be lore friendly. Still requires some suspension of disbelief, particularly in pretending all metals are the same, but it's better than nothing. As for crafted items being allowed through, maybe handwave that as magic rune inscription or some similar garbage during the crafting process - which would also slightly help in justifying the absurd crafting requirements later on. By that logic portals wouldn't even exist - hell, remove weapons while we're at it for extra challenge!Ī more feasible ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ explanation they could give is that portals are fey in origin, and considering fey and iron are extremely opposed, the portal magic just doesn't mix with ore.
Or it's a game and doesn't need your lore rules to justify mechanics. As it stands its inconsistently implemented and a major time sink. Or make it so bringing metal through portals makes it less accurate and you can get tp'ed into a location far away from where it should.
Maybe have runes that you place directly on the weapon/armor to make it TP safe. Make it so metal armor and weapons need to go into the box before using a portal so there is consistency with the no metal rule. Maybe give us a box that can be brought through portals because it has runes on it that stop the metal from ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up the portal. Valheim needs to be consistent with its teleportation mechanics and give a reason why some metal goes through and others do not or else its just a "♥♥♥♥ you" mechanic.
A big metal terminator needs to be covered in skin to time travel. The terminator franchise has a similar teleportation gimmick where metal ♥♥♥♥♥ the time machine up, but they work it into the story. That would mean the mechanic exists solely to inconvenience the player. So I assume their is no lore reason why we can't go through portals with metal or there wouldn't be this inconsistency. Metal cannot be teleported and yet we can go through portals with metal weapons and armor. Originally posted by Eternal President Uncle Slam:Its just not consistent.
